Let’s Be Honest About Birth Control

Birth Control is such a touchy subject, but it is one that needs to be talked about openly and honestly. Let me start by saying my doctor put me on Birth Control pills when I was 15 because I had horrible cramping and vomiting during my period. The Pill made my life easier and made my cramping, etc. feel better. But what I did not know at the time is that it had other major effects on my body that nobody warned me about. Sure there is the fine print that comes with the prescription, but who reads all that and even if you do, it is not going to happen to you. As a teenager you think they would not give it to me if it wasn’t safe.

Let me tell you, it is not safe. I am not trying to scare you, but I wish someone had told me, so I feel I owe it to you. I am not a doctor, but I have discussed this with several doctors and nurses and the effect of the Pill on your body has far-reaching and long lasting effects. One if the things that struck me the most was information from my endocrinologist. He said that women are poisoning themselves with hormones that are not natural to the human body. Sure they are only a few molecules different than what your body makes, but a few molecules is what separates estrogen and testosterone and you wouldn’t want to swap those out as interchangeable. These chemical reak havoc on a woman’s body. The Pill pumps you with artificial estrogen and too much estrogen, even natural estrogen, is a carcinogen, which means it CAUSES Cancer.

Many of my friends as young adults struggled with severe depression, anxiety, migraines, struggles with weight and many other things we had no idea stemmed from the Pill. One even had a stroke at 21 because of the Pill. When that happens to someone you know it rocks you to the core. When she told me about it, I started doing more research and the more I learned about the chemicals in the Pill and how it tries to fool your body into thinking it a pregnant all of the time. God made our bodies very smart. It knows that it cannot be in a constant state of pregnancy. The real kicker for me came when I found out that the Pill is supposed to prevent ovulation. However, that doesn’t always work, sometimes the body does ovulate and fertilization of the egg occurs, but as a backup plan it forces on a period, even if fertilization has occurred. This is why the Pill is referred to as an abortificient, because it does induce abortion. This is not only done by the Pill, the same goes for all of the other hormone birth control methods (IUD, patches, shots, etc.)

Then there is the fact that these “birth control” methods provide women, especially young women with a false sense of security that they can have sex and not get pregnant. That is another LIE. Studies have shown that the Pill is only about 92% effective when used properly (never miss a pill, always taken at the same time, etc). So the effective rate is actually MUCH lower. In fact, over half of the abortions performed in the US are done on women that were on birth control. What does that tell you? Women and men think that if you have sex, as long as you are on the Pill, you will not get pregnant, but that is wrong.

I believe that society should stop lying to women that the Pill is the best family planning option for them. It is dangerous to our bodies and it is not an effective way to prevent pregnancy, so why is it peddled to every female is this country as the best thing ever? $$$

If you are wondering without the Pill how am I going to keep from getting pregnant, I would say that depends on your situation. If you are single, guess what, abstinence is your best option. You may not want to hear it, but it is true. There are amazing programs out there. Theology of the Body is one I highly recommend. It teaches you about how and why our bodies work the way they do, not just sexually, but completely. If you are married, Natural Family Planning is awesome. There are so many benefits, it will have to be a separate post altogether. But what I can say is it is FREE, completely safe, effective and it significantly strengthens the marital bond. If you have any questions, please call us or come into our centers. We would love to talk to you further about any and all of these topics!

So now that I have told you the truth, do with it what you will. Many people will argue that this is all made up. Fine, God gives us free will to make decisions and you are welcome to use your Pill in ignorant bliss. But if this has sparked your interest, please to do your own research. Don’t rely on someone else to tell you what to believe.

Be a Beautiful Story

I would venture to guess that there have been MORE unplanned pregnancies in the span of time than planned ones. Our society is so obsessed with our personal plans that we forget that we are defined by how we handle the things we do not expect. There are many surprises in life, good and bad. Meeting your soul mate is typically an unplanned event, I know meeting mine was completely unexpected, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Other unexpected things can be life changing, like losing a loved one. When unexpected things happen, we need to embrace that everything happens for a reason. The most miserable people in this world are the ones that are the victims of their situations. Don’t get me wrong, some people fall on very hard times and they have every reason to be upset, but the beautiful stories, that we are all moved by, are the ones where people rise above their pain or their hurt and achieve greatness. Some of the people I admire most have experienced great loss or done horrible things in their past. Those people have every reason to be miserable, but they have made a conscious choice to not be defined by grief or pain or regret.

Be comforted in knowing that, at any moment, you can decide to live the path that has been set for you and embrace the unexpected, good and bad. You can rise above your problems and find happiness in helping others through hard times. You can be a beautiful story.

Far from Anti-Choice

Choices – Adoption | Parenting | Abortion:  Choice is a term you hear a lot around the topic of unexpected pregnancies and there is a rumor that pregnancy centers like JMJ are “anti-choice” and nothing could be further from the truth. Each of us is endowed with free will, the ability to choose, and no entity or person can take that from you.

Free will is a powerful gift and we all know from superheros that with great power comes great responsibility. So with the power of free will comes the responsibility of making good choices. Sometimes that is easy, do I want to eat donuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It may be yummy, but we all know it is a bad choice. Choices can be small and some can change our lives completely.

Let’s say I have a demanding boss that is requiring me to work late Friday night, even though I have Katy Perry concert tickets. I have a choice to make. I may decide that my job is important to me and they pay me well, so I will stay and do the work. I may decide that this job is not worth the trouble and quit. I can decide to have a conversation with my boss and see if I can go to the concert and work on Saturday instead. Or I can take my paperweight and murder my boss for making such a request. I am sure you can identify good and bad choices here. Obviously the last scenario is a BAD choice and it would have had horrible consequences on the rest of my life (think prison sentence). But the fact is with free will, we can make choices, good and bad.

When you face an unexpected pregnancy, you have choices as well. And the choice each person makes will depend on the situation they are in, since every one’s situation is different. This situation is life changing, no matter what the choice is. But in order to make a good choice, you have to know the facts about each choice, consider the consequences and go into your choice knowing you are making the right choice.

You can choose to parent the baby, in which case you need to figure out a support system. Will the baby’s father be involved in parenting, what about your parents or do you have siblings, friends or a local church that you can rely on? Those things need to be looked at when making the choice to parent.

You can choose to put the baby up for adoption. These days there are so many options for adoption. Did you know that more than one million couples want to adopt a baby? Yet, there are only about 50,000 babies placed for adoption each year (source: National Council for Adoption). This means there are so many loving families that would love to help you and you get to pick the best one.

You can choose abortion, yes I said it, no one here is trying to hide that choice from you. As I said, it is your choice. The thing we want to impress upon you is that abortion is not an undo button, there is no being “unpregnant”. Science has proven that your baby’s life began at the moment of conception (when the egg and sperm met). And your baby is already alive and kicking, thinking and dreaming. So while it is your choice, don’t accept the lies and propaganda that tell you your baby is a lump of tissue or that there are no issues after abortions. Not knowing the facts about abortion and being rushed into it has ruined many woman’s lives. We do not want that for you.

Come and talk to us about your options, we will not lie or hold back information. We will help you clear your head and work out a plan that is best for your unique situation. The thing we want you to remember is that you are not alone and we are here to help you.

Exciting Changes at JMJ

We are very pleased to announce some big changes are on the way for JMJ and they are all good. We have hired two new Directors at our Centers (one on the East Side and one in St Cloud) and an Executive Director. We will be sharing more about these amazing ladies very soon. For now all I can say is the Lord has blessed us profoundly and we are doing our best to follow His call.

I heard a great quote today that I thought I would share:

“God makes all things possible, not easy”

It certainly pertains to our ministry. Our ministry is never easy, but saving the life of a child is a miracle.

Healthcare legislation

Wow, what a terrible blow to the pro-life community and a sad day for the unborn. Healthcare legislation that will allow the use of tax dollars to support abortion. We pray that our public servants understand the repercussions of their actions and ask for the Lord’s forgiveness. We at JMJ realize that government funding of abortion will only increase the need for our services.

We need help more now than ever to reach out to women and let them know that even though abortion will be encouraged and subsidized by our tax dollars, it is not the only choice. JMJ does not receive funds from the government, we rely solely on the generosity of the community. We are supported by churches, groups and individuals who want to provide a positive life affirming choice to families facing crisis pregnancies.
